The Koinobori are the symbol of the Children's Day, Kodomo no Hi, which takes place on May 5th. They are colored carp made, normally, in paper or fabric and have various sizes. Koinobori usually have bright colors and even reach several meters in length. The Koinobori, during the holiday period, are hoisted on the roofs of the houses of all families with sons. The Carps are arranged in a row: the largest represents the eldest son, the smallest the younger son. When there is wind, fish appear to be swimming in the sky. Koi, carp in Japanese, are the symbol of success, courage and are a good omen. To celebrate the day dedicated to children, the Japanese have chosen the Carp because it is considered an animal with great strength and energy, capable of swimming among the strong currents of the falls. This is why Koi carp are the symbol of courage and determination.
