The Japanese name of this beautiful Kokeshi is Tanabata: the Party of the Stars in Love.
Her kimono, which represents the Tanabata, is decorated with the classic leaflets on
the which wishes are written during the party and which will then be hung on the trees.
Very elegant is her hairstyle, decorated with one star and one lantern, symbols of
the festival of stars in love. The Kokeshi is entirely hand painted by the artist Oki Izumi.

The Tanabata, which takes place once a year, celebrates reunification of the divinities
Orihime and Hikoboshi, representing the stars Vega and Altair.
According to legend, the two lovers were separated by the Milky Way, being able to meet
only once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, of the lunisolar calendar.
